About Houston Heritage Hub
Houston Heritage Hub is an educational project that pairs Houston's historic landmarks with an AI preservation assistant. Every building profile is grounded in a curated set of facts (architect, style, designations, documented climate threats), and the assistant is asked to keep its answers tied to that profile.
Why climate-resilient preservation?
The Texas Gulf Coast is one of the most demanding environments for historic buildings in North America. Hurricanes, storm surge, urban flooding, subsidence, extreme heat, and subtropical humidity all compound. Retrofitting a landmark without erasing what makes it worth preserving is a genuinely hard design problem.
The assistant labels each suggestion as character-preserving or requires review, a small nod to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and the fact that any real change to a landmark needs a real preservation professional's involvement.
Where to start
- Open the interactive map to browse by neighborhood.
- Browse walking tours for a curated sequence.
